7 Seniors Injured in Bus Crash

Seven seniors were injured as a result of an accident en route to the Senior Retreat on Wednesday. The 19-year-old driver died as a result of his car hitting the rear of the bus.


Joel William Drawbaugh, 19, was the driver whose car hit the bus carrying seniors to their retreat.

The bus driver and the seven seniors were taken to Carroll Hospital Center. Reports indicate all the injuries were minor.

The driver of the black Infiniti G37x, Joel William Drawbaugh of Havre De Grace, was trapped inside and was finally freed at about 11:31 a.m.He went into trauma arrest and died before further aid could be administered.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Falls Road at Brick Store Road at approximately 10:45 a.m. According to the government’s official release, BCoPD and EMS personnel from Baltimore County and Carroll County fire services responded by 10:50 a.m.

As rumors spread throughout the school, the administration notified the Pallotti community at 1:51 through robocalls and text alerts. David Tenney, Assistant Principal, addressed the students at day’s end, giving the facts and asking prayers for the driver.

The remaining seniors safely made it to River Valley Ranch in Manchester where the retreat activities went on as scheduled. Students were able to shake off the fear and concern by engaging in outdoor fun including zip-lining.

According to the government release, “The preliminary investigation indicates that the Infiniti was traveling southbound on Falls Road north of Brick Store Road. The charter bus had become stuck while attempting to make a left turn onto northbound Falls Road from eastbound Brick Store Road. As the Infiniti entered the intersection it struck the rear driver side of the bus.”
